The President of the Lake Basin Authority of Lakes Maggiore, Comabbio, Monate, and Varese is Gianluca Coghetto (Mayor of the Municipality of Besozzo)
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is composed of:
- Massimo Porotti – Vice President – Mayor of the Municipality of Biandronno;
- Giuseppe Cutrì – Delegated Councilor of the Municipality of Luino;
- Marta Meggiolaro – Delegated Councilor of the Municipality of Gavirate;
- Stefano Crespi – Delegated Councilor of the Municipality of Ispra.
The Consortium for the Joint Management of Lakes Maggiore, Comabbio, Monate, and Varese, in 2013, was transformed into the Lake Basin Authority of Lakes Maggiore, Comabbio, Monate, and Varese, pursuant to Article 48, § 4, of Regional Law No. 6 of 4 April 2012.
The Lake Basin Authority is a non-economic public entity with legal personality and organizational and accounting autonomy, established for the joint exercise of the functions of local entities concerning the lake public domain in the basin of Lakes Maggiore, Comabbio, Monate, and Varese, as per Article 6, § 4, of Regional Law No. 6 of 4 April 2012. Its main purposes are:
• The joint management of functions conferred to the Municipalities regarding the public domain of inland navigation by Regional Law No. 6 of 4 April 2012 and subsequent amendments and integrations, including the implementation of the program for the enhancement of the lake public domain.
• The management of all initiatives useful to promote a lake basin administration of issues related to the lake public domain and inland navigation, and the development of related activities according to the guidelines established by the Assembly.
• The management of regular and on-demand navigation services upon request of the associated entities and the Region.
• The promotion of tourism aimed at enhancing the lake basins, including the surrounding areas, with particular reference to tourism and economic development in respect of the environment.
• The representation and defense of the interests of the associated entities in defining water levels and public domain rights.
• The management and coordination, upon request of the associated entities or other entities, of activities necessary for the remediation of the waters of the lake basins.
• The management of other activities, also upon assignment by participating entities or other entities that have relation or relevance to the social purpose.
• Supervision, within the limits and in the manner provided by Article 4, paragraph a), of Regional Law No. 6 of 4 April 2012.
For the associated municipalities, the Authority also acts as a contracting authority, implementing the program of regional interventions on the public domain of inland waters as per Article 12 of Regional Law No. 6 of 4 April 2012, and issues the prior opinion that non-associated municipalities must obtain before proceeding with the implementation of such interventions.
